Jersey City Medical Center (JCMC), an RWJBarnabas Health facility, announced that it has received certification from DNV GL – Healthcare as a Primary Stroke Center, affirming the hospital’s readiness to handle a full range of stroke-related medical problems.
“This certification is yet another example of our commitment to excellence by providing our patients the best possible stroke care,” says Michael Prilutsky, President & CEO, Jersey City Medical Center. “Achieving certification demonstrates we are performing at the highest level and validates all the effort we have put into this program and to ensuring the health and safety of our patients.”
The DNV GL – Healthcare Primary Stroke Center Certification is based on standards set forth by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association, and affirms that the medical center addresses the full spectrum of stroke care – diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and education – and establishes clear metrics to evaluate outcomes.
JCMC Primary Stroke Center encourages the public to use the acronym BE FAST to remember the signs of stroke, and what to do if someone near you is experiencing them.
B – Balance Is the person suddenly having trouble with balance or coordination?
E – Eyes Is the person suddenly experiencing blurred or double vision or a loss of vision?
F – Face Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop or is it numb?
A – Arm Is one arm weak or numb or drifting downward?
S – Speech Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is their speech slurred or strange?
T – Time If you observe any of these signs, even if the symptoms go away, call 9-1-1 and get them to the hospital immediately
