Hoboken brings back car-free Sundays

In an effort to maximize public space for recreation and enjoyment along it’s Hudson River waterfront, Hoboken will close Sinatra Drive to vehicles at two locations on Aug. 11 and Aug. 25.

The initiative, also known as “Sinatra Summer Streets,” will close Sinatra Drive between Newark Street and Fourth Street to vehicle traffic from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Sunday, Aug. 11.

On Sunday, Aug. 25, Sinatra Drive between Fourth Street and Eleventh Street will close to vehicle traffic from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Parking will also be prohibited on these blocks during the car-free Sundays.

“We are proud to bring back the popular ‘Sinatra Summer Streets’ to further expand our efforts to promote sustainable transportation and improve the quality of life for all residents,” said Mayor Ravi Bhalla. “Whether you want to go for a bike ride, take a walk with your family, or go for a jog, I encourage all residents to come out and enjoy our beautiful waterfront, free from vehicular traffic.”

JerseyBike, Hoboken’s bike share operator, is expanding their docking stations along the Waterfront and will offer free rides on Aug. 11.
