The City of Hoboken, Hoboken Pride Group, and Hudson Pride Center raised the Pride flag above city hall to mark the beginning of Hoboken Pride Week on Friday, Aug. 9.
For the second consecutive year, Hoboken and other municipalities across Hudson County are participating in the county’s Pride Month celebration during the month of August.
Harmonica Sunbeam, an activist for the LGBTQ+ community and host of Drag Queen Story Hour in Hoboken and throughout the region, ceremonially raised the Pride flag on behalf of the city.
“We are pleased to once again join Hudson County to celebrate with our Pride Week events this year,” said Mayor Ravi Bhalla. “This is another way to uplift our LGBTQ+ community, and to demonstrate that Hoboken will always be a welcoming and inclusive community. Thank you to all of the organizers and businesses who have made the week’s Pride events possible.”
Bhalla and the city also presented proclamations to five community members who have made significant contributions to the LGBTQ+ and Hoboken community: Longtime resident Margo Singagliese, Charrito’s Restaurant owner Uzziel Arias, Hair Cult owner Laurie Michelson, Hoboken Public Library Director Lina Podles, and La Casa manager Alan Fox.
