According to a press release from the Hudson County Prosecutors Office, on Thursday, Aug. 29, at approximately 12:10 p.m., members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested a Jersey City substitute teacher on charges that included aggravated sexual assault involving a 14-year-old boy.
Elyse Castillo, age 45, was arrested at approximately 12:10 p.m. at the Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City without incident.
Castillo was charged with aggravated sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, as well as other third- and fourth-degree crimes.
Castillo is employed as a substitute teacher by the Jersey City Board of Education and the last day she reported to work was in November 2018.
The charges involve crimes that allegedly occurred between June 2018 and August 2019 in Castillo’s home on Pavonia Avenue Jersey City.
Castillo was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny pending her first appearance. The Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion for pretrial detention of the defendant.
A hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019.
