COUNTEE, SONIA ISABEL

Funeral services took place Sept. 10 for Sonia Isabel Countee. She passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 5th at her home in Union City with her husband at her side. Sadly, her unborn daughter of 7 months, Jasmin, also passed. Sonia was born in Secaucus on July 7, 1990 and grew up in Union City. Despite having passed at a young age, Sonia touched countless lives and will forever be remembered for her unbending love, compassion and thoughtfulness that she shared with all those whom she has left behind. One of Sonia’s greatest abilities was to nurture and bring out the best in all those she embraced. Her legacy will forever be that of the selfless protector of her family and friends. Sonia lived to be creative in her life, finding beauty and inspiration in everything from books, to writing, music and people. Above all else, Sonia loved being a mother to her daughter, Aubrey, her own personal miracle she gave to this Earth. She will forever shine through Aubrey throughout her life and continue to spread her love to all of us through her. Sonia was predeceased by her grandparents, Jose Telleria, Esperanza Sanchez, and Ivan Santana; and her cousin, Lydia Mercedes. She is survived by her daughter, Aubrey Countee; husband, Christopher Countee; her mother, Mariana Telleria; her brother, Raphael Castro; her sisters, Steffany Garcia, Darleny Garcia, Nicole Marcelino; her adoptive mother, Amarelis Garcia; her grandmother, Lydia Santana; her aunts, Marisol Telleria and Altagracia Ortiz; close friend Ana Irastorza; and many in-laws, uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends who all loved her.
