Hoboken seeks members for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)


The City of Hoboken and Hoboken C.E.R.T. invite members of the community to join the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT,) which currently has 150 members.

State-certified trainers will hold free CERT classes on two weekends in October.

Participation in CERT requires the successful completion of a training course on a range of subjects specific to emergency response and disaster relief.

All classes will be held at the Multi-Service Center, 124 Grand St. starting at 8 a.m. sharp and concluding by 2 p.m. There will be a short lunch break between modules.

The training schedule for October is as follows

10/12/2019 – Disaster Preparedness and Fire safety
10/13/2019 – Disaster Medical Operations 1 and Disaster Medical Operations 2
10/19/2019 – Light Search and Rescue Operations and CERT organization
10/20/2019 – Disaster Psychology and Terrorism in CERT

In addition to the classroom training and demonstrations, applicants will be required to complete FEMA On-Line Training on the Incident Command System (ICS). Details will be provided upon completion of the application.

The final drill and exercise location and date will be announced during the class.

Participants must attend every module of training as well as participate in the final emergency simulation exercise in order to receive certification as a fully trained CERT Team member.

Upon completion of the training, each participant will be issued a CERT Member Emergency Kit.

No prior experience is required. The training is free. Training is open to anyone over the age of 18.
