BROWN, JOHN

Funeral services were held at St. John the Baptist Church in Jersey City on Oct. 12 for John Brown, 74, a life-long resident of Jersey City and an active member of his community. He passed away Oct. 8 surrounded by his family. John was a husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend to everyone. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Reem Brown, daughter Grace Byrd, son-in-law, Ian Byrd, grandson, Emile Byrd, brothers Richard Brown and William Brown, sister, Elaine Rowan, brother-in-law Jack Cassidy, niece Jacquelyn Svercauski and her husband Robert, nephew Ronald Cassidy has his wife Renee, and his great nieces Robyn and Cassidy Svercauski. He was preceded in death by his brothers Robert Brown and Harold Brown, and sisters Eileen Cassidy and Barbara Brown. He was born to William and Margaret Brown, on Sept. 25, 1945. John graduated from Dickinson High School. He served his community for many years as a 911 dispatcher for the Hudson County Sheriff’s Department before retiring in 2012. John supported many honorable causes and organizations, with a special focus on the Wounded Warrior Project. John loved reading, politics, gardening and was an avid sports fan. In his later years, he enjoyed taking long walks in his neighborhood, greeting and speaking with everyone who crossed his path. His compassion, kind heart, and genuine interest in his fellow man were apparent in every interaction. He touched the lives of everyone he met, and will stay in the hearts of many for countless years to come. Services arranged by the McLaughlin Funeral Home, Jersey City.
