For the month of October, Jersey City Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health (RWJBH) facility, celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness month, and joined the entire RWJBH system for “Let’s Go Pink Together” on Friday, October 18, to raise awareness and encourage women to get their annual mammogram screening.
The hospital is lit up pink at night for the entire month.
JCMC also sponsored the American Cancer Society’s local Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk held at Lincoln Park on Sunday, October 20, with Team JCMC led by Oncology Services and Cristie Kerr Women’s Health Center staff.
The goal of the walk was to unite as a community to honor breast cancer survivors, and raise awareness about steps women can take to reduce the risk of getting breast cancer, while raising funds for breakthrough breast cancer research.
JCMC and RWJBH offer the latest in comprehensive breast health services including mammograms, 3D mammograms, genetic testing, breast surgery and more — like peace of mind. JCMC’s Cristie Kerr Women’s Health Center, which performs over 13,000 mammograms annually, offers convenient options for early morning and Saturday appointments.
According to the American Cancer Society, the average risk of a woman in the United States developing breast cancer sometime in her life is about 13 percent, or 1 in 8 women. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women (only second to lung cancer).
Finding breast cancer early and getting state-of-the-art cancer treatment are the most important strategies to prevent deaths from breast cancer.
Through a partnership with Madeline Fiadini LoRe Foundation, women who are uninsured who meet certain criteria may be able to receive financial assistance to cover the cost of a screening mammogram at JCMC’s Cristie Kerr Women’s Health Center.
