Hoboken holiday announcements

To help attract customers to local businesses, Mayor Ravi Bhalla and the City of Hoboken are launching an expanded Holiday Hop weekend service and free parking in garages on weekends through the end of the year.

Both initiatives will begin on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 30.

The city also announced several family-friendly events, including a holiday craft fair, tree lighting event, and banding concert which will take place in December.

Getting around 

Hoboken will offer free Holiday Hop service on weekends from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. beginning Saturday, Nov. 30, and continuing through Sunday, Dec. 29.

The Holiday Hop route will operate between Hoboken Terminal and 14th Street, generally along the NJ Transit 126 bus route.

Riders will be able to track the real-time location of the Holiday Hop using the SmartTraxx app, available in Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Hoboken will offer free parking in municipal garages B, D, and Midtown for up to four hours per day on weekends beginning Saturday, Nov. 30 and continuing through Sunday, Dec. 29.

To redeem the free parking for up to four hours in those municipal garages, drivers will need to show the garage attendant a receipt showing a purchase of at least $20 at Hoboken shopping or dining establishments, or the City Holiday Craft Fair on Dec. 7 and Dec. 8.

Holiday happenings

Hoboken will host events throughout December to celebrate the holiday season.

On Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7 and Dec. 8 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Hoboken City Hall Craft Fair will take place at 94 Washington St.

Three floors of city hall will be open to the public, featuring unique handcrafted gift items by local artisans.

Baking Mama will provide treats and refreshments, and Mrs. Claus will offer face painting for children.

The Hoboken Christmas Tree Lighting is Monday, Dec. 2 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in front of city hall.

The event features performances by School of Rock students, All Saints and Bold Arts, 2019 U.S. Finals Champions Challenge Division Grand Champions Cheer Dynamics All Stars Tiny Twinkles and Junior Jemz, Girl Scout Junior Troop 12563, Brownie Troop 10222 and Daisy Troop 10522, High School Select Band and Chorus, Middle School Chorus and flute Ensemble, Wallace, Connors and Brandt School Chorus,  and the HoliDates.

The MC/Host will be Dave Lambert of the Fuzy Lemons. There will be a special appearance by Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus.

The Holiday Banding Concert is on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the Hoboken Elk’s Club at Tenth and Washington streets.

Local bands and musicians will perform holiday classics, including Tom Vincent and The Hoboken Holiday Banding House Band, Abbe Rivers, The Lemons, Jim Testa, Ed Fogarty, Deena & Jon of The Cucumbers, Elevator Pitch, Sensational Country Blues Wonders, Las Vandelays, Lloyd United, Jack Skuller, Gene D. Plumber, School of Rock, Sputnik, and Adam Wade.

Admission is $10. Proceeds support the Movies Under the Stars outdoor summer series.
