A funeral mass was held Dec. 7 at Saint Vincent de Paul Church, Bayonne, for Mary E. McAlary, 86. She passed away Nov. 21, in Hackensack while visiting with her niece. She was born in Jersey City. She attended St. Dominic Academy and Caldwell University and earned her master’s degree at Seton Hall University and became a teacher and principal. Mary leaves behind her brother Dr. John McAlary, her sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Joan McAlary, fourteen nieces and nephews, and twenty-six grand nieces and nephews, as well as many other extended family and friends. She was especially close with her cousin from Ireland, Maisie (McKay) Doherty and her children, along with Andy McKay and the Traynor girls. Preceded in death by her parents, Margaret (McKay) and Henry, originally from Maghera, Northern Ireland, her brothers Henry and Kenneth McAlary, her sister Margaret (Peggy) Damato and brother-in-law Thomas Damato.
