Dear Editor:
The North Bergen, NJ Preschool has been illegally and unsafely located in Braddock Park for 19 years, in violation of NJ DEP and US NPS LWCF regulations, as a result of the callous and negligent actions by North Bergen and Hudson County officials in 2001, officials who are still in office.
For most of the 19 years, the preschool violated important NJ state safety regulations for TCUs (trailer classroom units), and it was not properly inspected annually for these infractions.
The road leading to the preschool is 1-lane wide, yet it handles 2-way traffic and pedestrians (there’s no sidewalk.)
A pedestrian was recently run over and killed near the preschool.
The preschool road intersects a busy county road which doesn’t have any traffic controls – no light, no stop sign.
There are groundhogs under virtually all of the 17 trailers.
The wooden trailer walls are rotten.
Preschool children and teachers’ lives have been endangered and still are endangered.
Action should be taken to ensure that this school vacates Braddock Park ASAP and officials who provided false information to NJ DEP and US NPS in their failed applications to legalize this NJ DEP diversion/US NPS conversion are held accountable.
