Thanks from a Vietnam Vet

Dear Editor:

On Oct 31,1969, I was honorably separated from the U.S. Navy. On Nov. 14, 2019 I was privileged to participate in an awards ceremony for Vietnam veterans; one of many occurring throughout the country during November.

The ceremony was held at Bayonne Hospital being sponsored by CarePoint Health in cooperation with Yale Veterans Association.
I would like to thank Dr. Vijayant Singh and the other dignitaries who attended.
My thanks go out to Captain Lydia Cristobal and Dr John Rimmer who served
As Co-Master of Ceremony and Lieutenant Tom Opladen of Yale Veterans Association.
Also thank you to Bayonne Hospital for providing the space.
Thanks to Dr. Simpson for his service as photographer.
I cannot give enough praise to Carla Virola for her renditions of patriotic songs which brought tears to everyone’s eyes.
We were informed of Mayor Davis’s participation. In fact his name is in the program. Mr. Mayor did not show. I personally don’t know why.
I would think that a letter of regret with congratulatory remarks for the veterans would have sufficed, or how about another administration official like the councilman/representative of the district?
It’s a shame that we veterans have to take a back seat to political machinations.
Thanks again for the accolades thrust upon me and my fellow veterans.
As sung by Carla Virola: “I am proud to be an American.”
