Jersey City man sentenced for sexual assault of 11 year old

Superior Court Judge Vito Scianclepore sentenced Jersey City resident Eric Garcia, 42, to 19 years in state prison for sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl in Jersey City, according to a press release from the  Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.

Garcia pleaded guilty on Oct. 17, 2019,  and has been incarcerated since Oct. 25, 2018.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit initially charged Garcia after an investigation in October 2018.

At the time of this crime, Garcia was on parole supervision for a similar sexual assault of a prepubescent female. As such, he will have to serve the entirety of his 19-year sentence in the custody of the New Jersey Department of Corrections, without the opportunity for parole.

Garcia will continue to be subject to Parole Supervision for Life and Megan’s Law registration after his prison term is completed. He is not expected to be released before  October 2037. T

The state was represented by Assistant Prosecutor of the Special Victims Unit Barbara Drasheff.
