A funeral mass was celebrated Jan. 6 at St. Aloysius Church for Nilsa “Lisa” Toro, 74. She died Dec. 31, 2019, surrounded by her family and friends. She loved to write poetry, sing, celebrate her faith in God and spend time with loved ones. Lisa was a lifelong resident of Jersey City and a member of St. Aloysius Parish. She was a generous, kind-hearted and loving mother, sister and friend. Lisa was predeceased by her daughter, Laura Kranvantka, her sister, Laura Toro and her parents, John and Monsa Toro. She is survived by her daughters, Jessica Nieves and Venessa Nieves Polito. She is also survived by her sisters, Gloria Nadal, Mariam Velasquez and Norma Toro; her brothers Robert and John Toro as well as six granddaughters and two grandsons, who were her pride and joy. Lisa is also survived by many family members and friends, including her former spouse, Eddie Nieves. Services arranged by the McLaughlin Funeral Home, Jersey City.
