She was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 6:05 a.m.

The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

Provost was transported by EMS to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment where she was pronounced dead at approximately 4:50 p.m.

The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.

According to Mayor Steven Fulop, the home where the mother and child were found was cited for health code violations in 2019.

“People ask all the time the hardest part about my job. It’s issues like this,” tweeted Fulop.  “We were here at this same house last year w/violations. The ‘system’ of local, county, state worked + yet here we are. It’s hard not to dwell on issues like this and reflect where we could all do better. It feels like we got it right technically and at the same time clearly got it SO wrong. It can consume us as it is really so sad any loss of life.”
