A funeral mass was offered Jan. 18 at St. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Church, Jersey City, for Stefan Pyrtej, 92. He passed away peacefully on Jan. 14. He was born in Smerekowiec, Poland to the late parents, Daniel and Jolanta. Stefan immigrated to the United States and worked for the Jersey City Welding Company doing various iron welding for 22 years. He will be remembered for his work on airplane hangers and the Statue of Liberty. He worked very hard to support his family and he’ll be missed by those who cared for him. He also enjoyed listening to old folk music. Stefan is survived by his wife, Eufrozyna and his son, Andrew. He is predeceased by his parents; his siblings, Anna Halunka and Mary Jadlowski; his nieces, Anna Berliner and Mela Pekarek; and by other family members.
