Funeral services took place Jan. 29 at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, Jersey City, for Douglas P. Dabney. He passed away Jan. 23. Born in Jersey City at the Margaret Hague Hospital to William and Marie Dabney Smith, Douglas graduated from P.S. 22 and Lincoln High School in 1967. He later graduated from St. Peters College with a degree in journalism. He became a reporter for a few years before moving to Houston, Texas. The passing of his mother brought Douglas home to New Jersey for a minute before moving to Philadelphia, Pa. to work for the Philadelphia Tribune. Afterwards Douglas worked for Urban League as a job developer, helping people get jobs, which he loved to do. He loved to help people and party and vacation with his friends Vaughn and Hawk. Douglas was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in June 2019, and came to live with his sister Charmaine, who became his caretaker. Douglas was predeceased by father Williams Dabney, his mother Marie Dabney Smith, his stepfather Robert Smith, his sister Joan Artist, Linda Major Hall, Dianne Ahmad and his brothers Thomas Dabney, and Richard Dabney. Douglas leaves to cherish his memory his brothers William “Bill” Dabney, Michael Smith, his sister Charmaine Jeffries, and a host of nieces and nephews. Services arranged by the Cotton-Parker Funeral Home, Jersey City.
