Dear Editor:
John Amato uses a lot of space in The Reporter to list all the good things that (he claims) Donald Trump has done for our country. In Part 1 of his series, he names 22 great accomplishments. In Part 2, 23 of them; and Part 3 is in the queue to be published. Are all these claims true?
Well, Mr. Amato, as a partisan, makes claims for Trump that a never-Trumper would challenge. I’m not one of the latter. Although I didn’t vote for him, i was glad he beat Hillary, because she was a known evil, and Trump? Because of his campaign promises, we hoped we had a true Populist in the White House, a real America Firster, like Lindbergh who tried to keep America out of Europe’s war in the 1930’s, but…
1) he promised to get out of NATO, an anachronistic and belligerent relic of the Cold War, but he reneged on his promise and now NATO is saber-rattling on Russia’s borders.
2) To please Netanyahu, he got the U.S. out of the Iran nuclear deal, which Europe and Russia supported, and now the world is in a much more dangerous place.
3) To please Netanyahu, he assassinated a beloved Iranian general, an act of war which is unconstitutional, since only Congress can initiate war. Consequently, America, and the world, is in a more dangerous place.
4) To please Netanyahu, he signed an executive order banning BDS (pro-Palestinian) movements on college campuses.
5) He promised to end our “stupid” wars in the Mideast, but has been sending more troops into Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq.
6) In order to steal Venezuela’s oil, he appointed an American puppet to be President of that country.
7) To please Netanyahu, he gave, as if it was his to give, a part of Syria, the Golan Heights, to Israel.
8) To please Netanyahu, he okayed Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian West Bank territory, a war crime under international law.
9) To please Netanyahu, he and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, introduced into the Peace Process the “Deal of the Century” which gives everything to Israel and nothing to the Palestinians, and was rejected by every decent country in the world.
There are more stupid and illegal things he has done, but that’s enough for now. As I said, I am not a never-Trumper. I was glad he was not impeached, for the Democrats hounding him were as bad or worse. And Trump has told a couple of important truths. He called the media, which lied and lied about Russia, Russia, the “enemy of the people”, and he called the top leaders of the FBI, who tried to prevent his election, “scum”.
