Two alleged thieves have been apprehended by police after a string of robberies in Bayonne.
After an investigation, the Bayonne Police Department Detective Bureau arrested two men for their alleged involvement in robberies that occurred in the city.
According to police, Nnamdi C. Atumundo and Josh Noncius were arrested in connection with a string of robberies from Feb. 9 to Feb. 12.
Atumundo, 22, from Irvington, was arrested at his home without incident on Feb. 13.
Authorities said Atumundo faces charges of three counts of robbery, three counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, three counts of possession of a handgun, and three counts of conspiracy.
The next day, on Feb. 14, Noncius, 20, from Orange, was arrested at his home without incident. According to police, he was also charged with robberies in Bayonne from Feb. 9 and Feb. 12.
Noncius faces charges of three counts of robbery, three counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, three counts of possession of a handgun, and three counts of conspiracy.
An alleged robbery spree
The first robbery allegedly took place around East 12th Street in Bayonne on Feb. 9. Members of the Bayonne Police Department responded to a reported robbery at approximately 5:23 a.m. in the area of East 12th Street. On arrival, first responders spoke with the victim of the alleged robbery.
According to the victim, two males approached the victim and stated they had a gun. The two men then allegedly robbed the male victim of his wallet. As a result, an immediate investigation was opened by the Bayonne Police Department Detective Bureau.
But before the alleged culprits could be caught, the two men allegedly struck again.
Bayonne Police officers responded to a report of a robbery on Feb. 11. This time, the robbers allegedly struck the northern end of the city at approximately 1:24 a.m., near West 50th Street. Upon arrival, officers spoke to a male victim who told police a similar story to the Feb. 9 incident.
According to this victim, two males robbed him of his belongings while one of the men brandished a handgun. The victim was robbed of his money, cellphone, and car key. A subsequent investigation was opened by the Detective Bureau to catch the robbers.
The robberies continued into the next day, Feb. 12.
Authorities said that the Bayonne Police Department responded to a report of a robbery at approximately 11:14 p.m. in the area of West 45th Street. Arriving officers found two victims on the scene who told officers they were robbed by two males.
The two victims told police that one of the robbers appeared to be armed with a handgun. According to the victims, the man with the gun struck one of the victims on the head with the weapon, causing a laceration. This prompted another investigation by the Bayonne Detective Bureau.
The next day, on Feb. 13 Atumundo was apprehended by authorities, while Noncius was taken into custody on Feb. 14.
The Bayonne Police Department thanked the Irvington Police Department and the Orange Police Department for their assistance during the investigations.
