MAIO, LIVIA GROMPONE

Funeral services took place Feb. 1 for Livia Grompone Maio, 100. She passed away peacefully at home in Fair Haven on Jan. 28, surrounded by her family. Livia was born in Gioi, Italy, on Sept. 26, 1919, and celebrated her 100th birthday last fall with family and friends at her home. Livia immigrated to Jersey City in 1947 to marry her husband, Anthony, who predeceased her in 1978. Livia worked at Western Electric in South Kearny for more than twenty years before retiring. She was a gifted seamstress, knitter, and gardener, who loved life and people, always welcoming them to her home to enjoy her delicious Italian cooking and baking. She is remembered for her “Livia-isms” and her great sense of humor. Livia leaves behind two daughters, Maria Maio Messano, and her husband, the Honorable Carmen Messano, and Pia Maio Bisesi, and her husband, Ralph Bisesi; her granddaughter, Diana Bisesi; her special niece, Maria Torraca, and her husband, Angelo Torraca; three sisters, Noreena Iovino, Claudina Nese, and Lieta Pagano, who reside in Italy; and dozens of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews around the world. Services arranged by the Greenville Memorial Home, Jersey City.
