Tackling Future Floods in New Jersey

Dear Editor:

After reading the article “Touring Future Flood Protection” I was pleased to read about the Rebuild by Design project that is being enforced in flood vulnerable areas of Hudson County. As a resident of Hoboken, I have seen the effects of massive flooding and the damage it has left behind. With the remnants of Super Storm Sandy still lingering in New Jersey, we need to make climate change the forefront of discussion and to enforce action plans like the Rebuild by Design project to slow down the devastating results it brings. Not only are our rising sea levels in trouble, but also the excess CO2 in the air, causing our earth to heat up at a rapid pace.

The Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act is a bi-partisan climate solution bill in Congress that proposes a reduction of carbon emissions by 40 percent within 12 years. The purpose of this bill is to create a healthier, more stable and prosperous nation by driving down America’s carbon pollution and unleashing American technology, innovation and ingenuity.

We have less than 10 years to reduce the damage climate change has created and we need to act fast. Let people know about the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act and ask them to encourage their elected officials to co-sponsor the bill while there is still time.
