City provides Bayonne Medical Center staff with lunch

Mayor James Davis joined the Bayonne Police and Fire Departments in providing lunch for staff at Bayonne Medical Center on April 3.

“Thank you Bayonne Medical Center!” Davis said. “We are very grateful for the incredible work these people are doing in the front lines of this crisis!”

Post Office closed due to personnel shortage

The Post Office is dealing with a shortage of workers due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management (OEM).

It will operate based on the personnel that is currently healthy. All three branches are open for P.O. boxes only. There is no window service.

It will reopen window service when it has the personnel. A representative of the Post Office has asked for the community’s patience.

Residents are advised not to call OEM or the Police Department with questions about the Post Office.

School District goes on spring break pending return to classrooms

Virtual Learning will end on April 8 at noon for the Bayonne School District. Spring break runs until April 20, with students expected to return to the classroom for in-person instruction by April 21.

That date is tentative as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. Parents and students are advised to monitor the Bayonne Board of Education website at BBOE.org.

Woman jumps to death from Bayonne Bridge

An unnamed woman jumped to her death from the Bayonne Bridge on April 1, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ).

The woman stopped her vehicle on the bridge and got out around 9:25 a.m. An abandoned vehicle was reported at that time, according to a Bayonne Bridge traffic alert.

After leaving her car, the woman jumped off the bridge to her death. No further information is being released, pending family notification, according to a spokesperson for PANYNJ.
