Death Be Not Proud

Dear Editor:

We are deeply saddened to hear about the untimely passing of Councilman Michael Yun; he succumbed to complications from COVID-19. Since being elected to the city’s council, Michael Yun was the independent “voice of the people.” He represented his ward with honesty and integrity. Michael Yun’s respect for all the people within his ward helped him to be elected – and re-elected – to the city’s council.

Michael Yun was a strong advocate for the people of Jersey City. His dedication, selflessness, and tireless efforts to make Jersey City the best urban center within the state will be sorely missed.

A great man, such as Michael Yun, has left us at a tremendous loss. There is now a very noticeable void in the Council’s chamber; the man with the bow tie is gone. Unfortunately, we must all pass. However, although death has claimed the life of Michael Yun, death is unable to kill his good name and reputation; they shall live on for eternity. The love that the people of Jersey City have for Michael Yun are the wings that shall carry him to everlasting peace in Paradise.

John Donne said it best: “Death be not proud, tough some have called thee mighty and dreadful. for thou art not so. . . .One short sleep past, we awake eternally, and Death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.”

Vaya con Dios, Michael. You will be sorely missed.

Very respectfully yours,
