SHAW, STANLEY

A private funeral took place for Stanley Shaw of Jersey City. He passed away March 24. Stan (aka, Grampy, Pop, Stash, Sunny or Stan the Man) was born at Margaret Hague Hospital. However, Stan’s life really began in 1958 when he had the good fortune to borrow a pink umbrella and use it to woo the love of his life, Lois, as they dodged raindrops on the stoop of a shoemaker shop on Bowers Street. Their love never failed and only grew stronger through 56 years of marriage based on laughter, mutual love and respect. Stan is survived by his bride, Lois, sons, Mark, Mike, and Matt, and daughter, Cyndi, his sisters, Carol and Isabel and brother, Charlie, his brother-in-law and best friend, Tom DeGise, 10 grandchildren and his nieces, nephews, and cousins. Stan loved his family above all, but also loved, in no particular order: Wise Cheez Waffles, the Mets, Congress Tavern, Shawfest, Donald Trump, Chunky Bars, Westerns, his fourth-grade teacher, Miss Hoffmeier, the Amish country, fishing for blues on the Gambler, and Eagle Point. But life’s not all beer and skittles. Some things Stan didn’t like included: the Yankees, shitzkahs in his ice cream, Brussels sprouts, the Philadelphia Eagles, being called cute (even though he was), squirrels, and the Captain, from Captain & Tennille. Stan will be missed by all who knew him and remembered in the hearts of the many lives he touched. While services will be private, well-wishers are encouraged to open an ice cold bottle of Rolling Rock and drink it in his honor. Stan’s family would also like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Jersey City Medical Center and Villa Marie Claire Hospice for their compassion, dedication, and bravery. Services arranged by the McLaughlin Funeral Home, Jersey City.
