North Hudson COVID-19 testing site opens in Union City
North Hudson’s municipalities, in conjunction with the North Hudson Community Action Corporation (NHCAC), opened a new coronavirus testing center on April 6.
The municipalities include Union City, Weehawken, West New York, Guttenberg, and North Bergen. The center is at 36th Street between Bergenline Ave. and Kennedy Blvd. in Union City.

Hoboken, Mayor Ravi Bhalla encouraged businesses such as supermarkets, pharmacies, and restaurants, to turn away customers without face covers.
Field hospital opens at Secaucus Meadowlands
To serve north Jersey residents, a field hospital was constructed at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, which adds 250 hospital beds for non COVID-19 patients.

Charges against Shirden and Rush include those involving murder, weapons possession, and theft.
The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Hoboken council adopts resolution
On April 9, the Hoboken City Council adopted a resolution authorizing a retainer agreement with Windels, Marx, Lane, & Mittendorf, LLP to act as special legal counsel regarding Hoboken University Medical Center.
The contract was for $50,000. The vote passed 8-0 with Councilman Ruben Ramos absent.
Hoboken officers injured after alleged struggle over officer’s gun
According to a press release from the Hoboken Police Department, three police officers were injured on April 10 after a suspect allegedly attempted to take an officer’s handgun.
At 2:21 a.m. April 10 Hoboken Police Sergeant Donald Rosso was on patrol at Observer Highway and Henderson Street when he saw an individual allegedly break into the trunk of a parked 2019 BMW.
After a four-block foot pursuit, Officers Christopher Barral, Josh Campoverde and Sgt. Rosso, stopped the suspect at 56 Jefferson St.
Lieutenant Mike Costello, Sergeant Anthony Russo, and Officer Jesse Castellano arrived to assist with the attempted apprehension.
During a violent struggle, the suspect allegedly grabbed Officer Barral’s gun and began to remove it from his holster.
During the handcuffing, the suspect allegedly bit Sgt. Russo on the shin. Lt. Costello, Officer Campoverde, and Officer Barral sustained injuries.
The suspect, Jersey City resident Lonnie Clark, 38, was charged with numerous offenses, including disarming a law enforcement officer.
He is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
“Barral began to yell ‘He has my gun’ repeatedly as Barral used all his strength to keep the suspect from gaining sole control of the firearm,” states the press release from the police department. “Sgt. Russo and Officer Campoverde struggled to try to keep the suspect from gaining full possession of the weapon. After a long struggle and the use of mechanical force, the officers were finally able to secure Barral’s weapon but the suspect [allegedly]continued his fight, [allegedly] attempting to grab the holsters of Sgt. Russo and Officer Campoverde.”
Costello and Campoverde were cleared to resume work on their next shift, while Officer Barral is out injured due to a hand injury which will be re-assessed in three weeks.
On April 6, members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to shots fired in the area of Martin Luther King Drive and Myrtle Avenue in Jersey City.
According to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, officers found Javone Smith, 23, of Jersey City, with multiple gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced deceased at Jersey City Medical Center at approximately 6:49 p.m.
