CORBO, GEORGINA

Funeral services took place April 11 for Georgina Corbo, of West New York. She passed away April 3. Georgina was born in Havana, Cuba and came to the United States with her husband and four children in 1968. Throughout the years, Georgina studied at several schools and earned her Early Childhood Teaching certification at Columbia University, while working full-time and raising four young children. Georgina began her professional teaching career as a paraprofessional at the Lincoln Center Nursery School. Then she went to work at Hartley House in midtown Manhattan where she taught early childhood through 6th grade for 43 years until she retired in 2017, at her young age of 87 years old. The time she spent with her students was a great source of joy in her life. In her spare time, she officiated Bingo games and organized events for her midtown Seniors group. She was passionate gardener, and spent countless joy filled hours pruning her beloved trees, re-potting plants and flowers. In her later years, she painted beautiful works of oil on canvas and created many ceramic figurines and clay pottery. Georgina’s beautiful soprano voice could be heard throughout the house more often than not, and did she have some moves! She was an amazingly elegant dancer who was always impeccably dressed and made-up. She was always very proud to be the president of her church organizations at Saint Benedict’s and Sacred Heart in Manhattan for over 30 years. Lastly, she cherished and protected her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many pets tirelessly. Her sense of humor, altruism and strong faith made her a bright light and blessing to all she knew. Georgina is survived by her four loving children, six grandchildren, six great-grand-children and dog. Services arranged by the Volk Leber Funeral Home, Teaneck.
