On April 22, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit with the assistance of the Jersey City Police Department arrested Jersey City resident Jermaine Williams, 28, for his alleged involvement in the sexual assault of a Jersey City woman at knife point on April 7.
According to a press release from the HCPO, on April 7, at approximately 2:30 a.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit responded to a report of a sexual assault at knife point on Warner Avenue and Ocean Avenue in Jersey City. The victim, a 37-year-old woman, was treated at Christ Hospital.
Williams, who allegedly fled from police according to the press release, was arrested just before 2 p.m. on April 22 on Bidwell Avenue in Jersey City.
He was charged with two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault, Robbery, Sexual Assault, Criminal Restraint, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes (knife), Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (knife), Terroristic Threats, Obstruction, and Resisting Arrest.
Following his arrest, Williams was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny pending his first appearance. The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion for pretrial detention of Williams. A hearing is scheduled for April 28.
Prosecutor Esther Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Jersey City Police Department for the investigation and arrest.
The above charges are merely accusations. Williams is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
