Funeral services have been held for Beatrice Rubin. She passed away on April 7 from the Covid-19 virus. “Bashi” was born in Hoboken, the fourth child of Jacob and Frieda Schwartz. She was the baby sister to her brothers Julie and Sammy and her sister, Sylvia. On November 5, 1949 she married Philip Rubin a promising young pharmacist. Together in 1954, they opened Rubin Drugs at 299 Jackson Avenue, Jersey City. They had two sons, Paul in 1956 and Michael in 1957. Unfortunately, Phil died prematurely in 1972 leaving Bea to operate the drug store, raise two teenage boys and put them through college by herself. Only 5 feet and ½ inch tall, her size belied the amount of her strength and spirit. In addition to the above obligations, she still found time to be active in her temple. Bea and Phil were one of the original members of Congregation B’nai Jacob. Bea following the footsteps of her father, was active in the Temple. She was President of the Sisterhood, the first female vice president of the Temple, (becoming the first women to sit on the bimah of B’nai Jacob, which was a big deal in the 80’s for a conservative temple), and the first female President. She is survived by her two sons, Michael and Paul, daughter in-laws, Ellen and Marci, grandchildren, Paige, Sydney, Benjamin and Dylan, three great-grandchildren, Elijah, Amelia and Aubrey, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces and her numerous friends who all loved her and will miss her greatly. Details for a Virtual Shiva will be forthcoming. Services arranged by Eden Memorial Chapels, Inc., Fort Lee.
