Dear Editor:
Freeholder Vainieri: you ran on a platform of “regulating” Hudson County’s Braddock Park better; you said it was being “overrun.”
IN 2001, North Bergen illegally removed a baseball field, replacing it with 17 big, ugly and unsafe preschool trailers, only one year after North Bergen residents angrily denounced and caused cancellation of plans to build a high school in Braddock Park.
Putting any school in Braddock Park violates regulations which protect it from non-recreational use.
The Preschool also violated important State safety regulations; children and teachers lives were/are jeopardized.
These 20 year old trailers (“Temporary Classroom Units (TCUs)”)), have been in service well beyond their useful life; North Bergen admitted TCUs are “typically leased for five years.”
TCUs are notoriously bad for air circulation, a major concern now that we have experienced Coronavirus.
Now that you are Chief Freeholder of Hudson County and running for re-election, will you ensure that North Bergen complies with State regulations and removes its 20 year old Preschool from Braddock Park by NJDEP’s 08-31-21 deadline?
Robert Walden
