Private funeral services have been held for George H. Surles, 94, a resident of Jersey City. He passed away April 8. Born in Union Springs, Alabama, George lived in Jersey City since the age of 16. He worked various jobs during his life. George was a friendly person and met many people and made many friends. He loved to go fishing, cooking, and spending time with his friends and family. He was affectionately known as Pop. He was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church for many years. George is survived by his wife of 73 years, Olivia (Goodson) and children Katleen Watt, Carolyn Byrd (Troy). Grandchildren, Antonia Lee, Gerald Lee Sr. (Shonder) and Lewis Lee (Caroline). Four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Many other nieces, nephews and friends. Special friends Carlton Haynes and James Robinson. Predeceased by his parents and seven brothers and one sister. Funeral service is private. Services arranged by the Watson Mortuary Service, Jersey City.
