Bayonne’s Memorial Day

Dear Editor:

Memorial Day is quickly approaching, but this special day will be different than all other Memorial Day Holidays that we remember.

Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, there will be no ceremony on 5th Street to commemorate our fallen brothers and sisters that paid the supreme sacrifice to preserve our freedom. Although there will be no parade marching down Broadway honoring our departed veterans, we must remember that this is not just another Monday! As Americans, we must remember our soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice and never came home, especially Douglas Lee O’Neill from the Vietnam War, who is still missing in action.

We ask that all Bayonne citizens join us Veterans in The National Moment of Remembrance at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day to pause for a duration of one minute to commemorate those who have given their lives for what we enjoy today; and to remember, with a sense of appreciation, those who have served and are serving in active duty in the military.
