A memorial service will be planned at a later date for Katherine M. Searvance. Born April 26, 1941, of Jersey City, she passed away April 28. She was born to the late Leroy and Louise Forde, the youngest of five children. She attended Lincoln High School and spent her life being a daughter to her parents. In July of ’57 she married Ted E. Searvance, Sr. and from that union six children were born and also a son and daughter. She was a dedicated mother; raising her family and being a surrogate mother to countless family and friends. All that knew Katherine would agree family meant the world to her. She always said, “no amount of money could substitute for family!” She was a self-taught seamstress and made wedding and prom gowns. She also was an interior decorator. She gave of herself selflessly, and never looked for acknowledgement; a true servant. She will be missed by many, a mother and a true friend. Katherine, also known as: Butch, Grandmas, and Gaga, is survived by her children: Michael Searvance; Michele O’Neill; Angela Bethea (Willis); Kathy Franklin (Barry); Dwain Jackson (Cheryl); Carla Chase (Eric);. Also survived by: Melvin Sims (life partner); daughter-in-law, Adelaide Searvance; goddaughter, Toni Keith; sisters-in-law: Betty Searvance; and Audrey Searvance; fifteen grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
