Local Boy Scout donates funds to food pantry

Matthew Kleczynski spearheaded an effort with his Boy Scout Troop to raise money for people in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mayor James Davis said he raised approximately $600 and donated all of it to the Bayonne for Bayonne Food Pantry, which has been giving food to those in need over the last two months.

“Great job Matthew and THANK YOU for being #BayonneStrong,”  Davis said.

Street repaving continued

According to the local Office of Emergency Management, milling and paving of Broadway between 1st and 3rd Streets was slated to begin June 1, and go through June 3, weather permitting.

Post Office hours updated

Bayonne post offices have been short staffed due to COVID-19. Hours of operation have changed as a result.

The Main Post Office is open from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., the Bergen Point Post Office is open from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., and the Pamrapo Post Office uptown is open from 9 a.m. until 4:45 p.m.

More food bank distributions

Another Bayonne Food Bank distribution took place on Friday, May 29, at the Bayonne Museum on Broadway. Distributions are sporadic. Information regarding food bank events are posted on social media beforehand by city officials.

Residents should check Mayor Davis’s and other official city social media pages.

Another military flyover

Two F-18 fighter jets performed a flyover of the area around 1 p.m. on May 29, according to OEM. Jets flew up the Hudson toward West Point and circled back down the river.

There have been as many as five flyovers in recent months to honor front-line workers amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
