Hoverboard rider killed in collision in Bayonne

A Bayonne man was struck and killed while riding a hoverboard in the city on Sunday, June 7.

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced the investigation on June 8.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit is investigating a motor vehicle collision that resulted in the death of a Bayonne man. The man was riding a hoverboard in Bayonne on Sunday afternoon at the time of the accident.

The 40-year-old victim was later identified as Matthew Anderson. Anderson was struck in the area of 40th Street and Avenue C, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.

He was pronounced deceased at 3:27 p.m. at the Jersey City Medical Center. The Prosecutor’s office said the driver remained at the scene. The driver, a 23-year-old man, was not identified.

No charges have been filed at this time and the investigation remains ongoing.
