Sibrena Geraldino named Bayonne’s Woman of the Year
Sibrena Geraldino has been named Bayonne’s Woman of the Year. She was presented with a plaque and medal in Mayor James Davis’s office.
Sibrena is the first African-American woman to own a Professional Soccer League, NJ Teamsters FC. She was the former Mrs. Hudson County America, Ms. NJ-North East America pageant queen, and a finalist at Mrs. New Jersey America. She is the cousin of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
SIbrena presented the mayor with a check for the city’s Special Needs Program.
“I would like to thank Sibrena and Alex Geraldino for their generous monetary donation toward our Division of Recreation, Special Needs Program,” Davis said. “I would also like to congratulate Sibrena for being chosen as Bayonne’s Woman of the Year.”
Bayonne man sentenced for tax evasion and bankruptcy fraud
On June 29, Patrick Franconeri, 57, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for tax evasion and bankruptcy fraud, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.
Franconeri was owner and operator of several construction businesses.
During tax year 2014, Franconeri failed to file a tax return or request an extension, according to Carpenito. He took actions to conceal and attempt to conceal his income, as well as his ownership of property and businesses.
The judge also sentenced him to three years of supervised release and ordered him to pay restitution of $716,569 to the victims of his bankruptcy offense and $558,349 in restitution to the IRS.
Bayonne Nature Club Bird Walks
Every Wednesday, the Bayonne Nature Club leads bird walks from 9 to 11 a.m.
Meet at the gate of Rutkowski Park near the restrooms of Stephen Gregg Hudson County Park.
There will be Saturday bird walks July 11 and 25 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Lefante Walk. Meet at the first green bridge behind Otaiko Restaurant in South Cove Commons Mall.
Bring your binoculars. The Nature Club will bring the scope.
Wear a mask, bring water to drink, and maintain social distancing.
Social Security offers most services online or by phone
During the coronavirus pandemic, the Social Security Administration (SSA) provides ongoing benefits and services, though not in-person.
Online services include applying for retirement, disability, and Medicare benefits, checking the status of an application or appeal, requesting a replacement Social Security card, and printing a benefit verification letter. It will extend deadlines when possible.

Bayonne man arrested after allegedly stabbing another man’s face
Joseph Matusaitis, 53, was arrested by the Bayonne Police Department after allegedly stabbing a man in the face.
Officers observed a male, later identified as Matusaitis, seated on a bench outside a residence in the area of 31st Street and Broadway
The 48-year-old male victim had facial lacerations which he said were allegedly caused by Matusaitis, using a kitchen knife.
Matusaitis was placed under arrest, charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon, and transported to the Hudson County Jail.
The victim was transported to the Bayonne Medical Center. His condition is not clear.
The above charges are merely accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
