Man turns himself in for alleged involvement in Secaucus hit and run

Detectives with the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Regional Collision Investigation Unit arrested David Ceausu, 19, of Baltimore in connection to a July 6 fatal hit and run in Secaucus that killed a 35-year-old Union City woman.

He is charged with knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.

On July 6, members of the Secaucus Police Department responded to the area of the Route 3 Service Road, which is in front of 850 Paterson Plank Road, at about 7:30 p.m.on reports of a pedestrian struck, with life-threatening injuries.

The victim, later identified as Reyna Huerta-Flores, was transported to Hudson Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 11:16 p.m.

She was walking from Secaucus to Union City when she was allegedly struck by Ceausu who allegedly fled the scene.

The above charges are merely accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

North Bergen offers outdoor movies

Mayor Nicholas Sacco and NB C.A.R.E.S. are sponsoring free weekly outdoor movies on Thursday nights. Free popcorn, water, and giveaways.

Erroneous billing through Riverside Medical in Hoboken

If a Hoboken resident or employee of a Hoboken business receives a COVID-19 test from the Riverside Medical testing site in Northwest Hoboken and does not have insurance, or insurance does not cover the cost of the test, the city will pay for the test.

Riverside erroneously sent bills to some Hoboken residents and employees.

The city instructs those who received a bill, or a second bill for payment, to disregard it.

The city’s finance department is processing a payment for Riverside for the costs of test for Hoboken residents and employees and will be doing so regularly.

North Bergen tax collector extends hours

The tax collector’s office will have extended hours on Monday, Aug. 10, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for payment of property taxes. It’s in Municipal Hall, 4233 Kennedy Blvd., side entrance.

Jersey City could review street sweeping schedules

The Jersey City Council unanimously introduced an ordinance to create a Street Cleaning Review Commission and propose amendments to the schedule.

Procedures have become increasingly disruptive to traffic patterns and parking.

The commission will include one mayor designee, one Department of Public Works designee, and three members of the community as designated by the city council.

Within 90 days, the committee will make recommendations to the administration.

Upon final approval, the new schedule will be implemented on Jan. 1, 2022 to allow time for signage to be changed and processes to be put in place.

North Bergen Libraries reopen for computer use

The Main and Kennedy Branches of the North Bergen Free Public Library have reopened for computer use:

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 2-7 p.m.

Tuesday, Friday, Saturday: 10-3 p.m.

Eight people allowed at one time. One hour per person. Six computers. Wi-Fi outside the library and in the parking lot.

Masks and social distancing of six feet required. Bathrooms are limited.

Ask for assistance if you need a book. Curbside pickup:

Monday to Thursday: 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Friday, Saturday: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The Guttenberg Resource Center offers curbside pickup only.

Jersey City man found fatally shot in car

On July 10, just after 12:40 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of Clerk Street and Forrest Street in Jersey City on a report of a man shot in a car.

Officers found Yusef Mathis, 30, with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body.

The victim was pronounced dead at 12:52 p.m. at the scene of the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time.
