NEWBY, DORIS

A funeral mass took place July 11 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Jersey City, for Doris Newby. She died peacefully July 4th at Monmouth Care Facility. Doris was a lifelong resident of Jersey City. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years William J. Newby, her sons Robert Newby Sr., and James Newby Sr., and his wife Ellie. She is also predeceased by her sisters, Anna LaRocco, Jean DeVito, Madeline Gerrity, Rosemary McAleer and Patricia DeSciscio. Doris is survived by her sons William J. Newby, Jr. and his wife Katherine, Michael Newby Sr and his wife Lynn, her daughter Kathleen Romano and her husband Vincent and her daughter-in-law Barbara Newby. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Doris was loved by all who met her. She enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners for her family, who would eat in five shifts. She baked many delicious treats including her famous strawberry cheesecake, tomato soup cake and various Christmas cookies. Services arranged by the Greenville Memorial Home, Jersey City.
