The COVID-19 testing mobile unit in North Bergen has relocated to the municipal parking lot on Liberty Ave.

North Bergen has established several sites where residents can get free COVID-19 testing, including a mobile unit that sets up in various locations throughout the township to ensure that residents can get free testing conveniently near their homes.

The mobile site is now in the municipal parking lot at 3725 Liberty Ave. Testing is free to North Bergen residents, regardless of insurance status. If residents do have insurance, they will not be billed a copay or deductible.

Appointments are required. To make an appointment, text the word “COVID” to 973-447-3559 or call 201-834-8887 to speak to an operator in English or Spanish.

Tests offered are the COVID-19 Nasal Swab and the Serology Antibody Test. This service is offered in partnership with Diligent Urgent Care.

Increasing testing

The mobile unit is part of the effort to increase COVID-19 testing in the township.

North Bergen opened three new COVID-19 testing sites in early June, where residents can be tested with no out-of-pocket costs, regardless of insurance status.

Mayor Nicholas Sacco and his administration have entered into partnerships with private medical facilities to operate the sites, which will reduce costs for the township and streamline operations.

Combined with sites that already available to North Bergen residents, the township now offers up to 1,000 tests a day, a significant increase.

“Our team has been working diligently for weeks to establish these testing sites, and we are confident that we will now be able to ensure that all North Bergen residents have access to free COVID-19 testing,” Sacco said. “Increasing our testing capacity will allow us to proactively identify residents who test positive so they can self-isolate, and also provide peace of mind to those who may have recovered from the illness but were never tested. This will help us reduce the number of new infections and save lives.”

The three sites operate by appointment only and are available to North Bergen residents with proof of residency.

To schedule a test, residents must call or text first to set up a telemedicine appointment to determine the appropriate test based on their symptoms, recent contacts, and other factors. The new sites are downtown, at the waterfront, and uptown.
