Hurt

Dear Editor:

In response to Scoot Guzzi’s Facebook post, depicting the hanging of a black male, here is an original poem…In these difficult and challenging times we need to embrace, learn and educate each other. There will be no tolerance for ignorance.

You think you know me but you don’t see me.
You say you hate me but you lay in the sun to look like me.
You think you know my pain but you laugh at me in vain.
You will call me a thick lipped yard ape, slut or a ho’, but you will fill your lips full of silicon.
You stereotype us all thinking all we can do is bounce a ball.
You don’t know I’ve come from Kings and Queens building civilizations that kept you free.
You think you know me but you don’t see me.
