Bayonne man arrested after alleged knife attack
On July 31, officers responded to the Bayonne Medical Center ER on a report of a security guard cut with a knife, allegedly by Saladin Blunt, 48, according to the BPD.
Blunt allegedly struck the guard the face with a closed fist and slashed him across his ear with a pen-styled knife, which was never recovered.
He was arrested and charged with assault and weapons violations.
Pre-K3 Lottery winners to be announced
The Bayonne School District will offer Pre-K3 for the 2020 to 2021 School Year.
The program will be based on the reopening plan approved by the state.
To be eligible, children must turn 3 on or before October 1, 2020. There are 168 spots.
The district will offer free full-day Pre-K3 at Preschool Playhouse at 625 Ave. C; Community Day Nursery at 591 Broadway; and the Jewish Community Center at 1050 Kennedy Blvd.
Selection will be determined by a random online lottery from Aug. 3 to 10 at 4 p.m. The drawing will take place on Aug. 11 at 10 a.m.
If a child is selected, parents or guardians must log into their Lotterease account to accept by 3 p.m., Aug. 13.
Residents will receive email instructions for online registration.
7-Eleven employee arrested for alleged theft
Employee Baljinder Singh was taken into police custody from 7-Eleven at 463 Avenue C after allegedly stealing more than $7,000 from the register over several months.
Help with grants
A table at city hall has been set up to help businesses apply to relief programs. Residents will be allowed in one at a time to maintain social distancing.
The city will have a tablet where residents can apply online to the CARES Act Small Business Program, with assistance. Paper applications will also be available. It will not be administered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Staffers will assist with scanning documents. The city will accept paper documents.
Information on other grant programs will be available.
Assistant City Business Administrator Mark Bonamo will visit businesses with a tablet and paper applications.

Businesses can also apply to the Hudson County Small Business Grant program. The application will be at city hall until Aug. 13.
