Bayonne City Councilman had another surgery after sanitation truck accident

Bayonne City Councilman Sal Gullace remains in the hospital after sustaining a leg injury from an accident involving a garbage truck. He was working with the Hudson County Improvement Authority (HCIA) on July 24 when the accident occurred.

Gullace is currently hospitalized at University Hospital in Newark, where he has undergone multiple surgeries. At the Aug. 12 city council meeting, Council President Sharon Ashe-Nadrowski said he was scheduled to have another surgery on Aug. 13.

Wishing him a speedy recovery

On July 25, a day after the accident, his wife Donna Gullace posted on Facebook: “Thankful for our amazing family and friends.”

In a statement to the Bayonne Community News, Mayor James Davis said, “We are all praying for Sal to make a complete recovery from his injury. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sal and his family.”

Many residents, including city officials, commented on Donna Gullace’s post, offering well wishes to Gullace and his family.

“Praying for you and Sal!!! If you need anything at all- let me know!” Business Administrator Melissa Mathews said.

“Please continue to keep my friend Sal Gullace in your thoughts and prayers,” said John Milan Sebik. “I believe in the power of prayer.”

The Second Ward includes the area from the north side of 16th St. between Newark Bay and Kennedy Blvd. and the north side of 17th St. between Kennedy Blvd. and Constable Hook to and including the south side of 32nd St.
