Irvington resident charged with DWI in Hoboken

Hoboken police charged an Irvington resident after finding marijuana and an open container of alcohol allegedly in his vehicle, after he allegedly drove down a closed traffic lane.

According to a press release from the Hoboken Police Department, shortly after 2 a.m. on Aug. 26, Lieutenant James Peck saw a vehicle traveling in the area of Eighth Street and Sinatra Drive.

As Lt. Peck watched the vehicle, it allegedly drove into a traffic lane that was currently closed.

Peck advised dispatch. While doing so, he saw “the vehicle was having a difficult time backing out of the closed lane.”

When Officer Brandon Fitzgibbons arrived, the driver allegedly continued to unsuccessfully reverse.

Fitzgibbons approached, and while speaking to the driver, identified as Irvington resident  Anees Corbin, 40, Fitzgibbons smelled alcohol allegedly coming from the driver.

Officers placed Corbin under arrest for driving while intoxicated.

Police also charged Corbin with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was also charged with Reckless Driving, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in a Motor vehicle, Driving in a Closed Roadway, and having an Open Container in a Motor Vehicle.

His charges were placed on a summons, and he was released to a responsible person.

Corbin is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
