A funeral mass was offered Aug. 26 at St. Paul’s Church for Susan M. Capristo, 70, of Jersey City. She passed away on Aug. 22 at her sisters Staten Island home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous two-month battle with cancer. She was born to the late Marie (nee Tremonte) and Rocco Capristo and raised in Jersey City where she was a lifelong resident. She attended St. Paul’s Elementary School, Snyder High School, and Jersey City State College where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She was an elementary school teacher for 34 years. She taught at Sacred Heart School and PS 11 Martin Luther King School of Jersey City. She would later become the cafeteria supervisor for Sacred Heart School for 10 years. She participated in Lupus walks for the past 10 years and Sacred Heart Walks for more than 30 years. She was an active member of the Loyal order of the Moose Jersey City Lodge No 266. She donated to several charities close to her heart St. Jude’s Research Hospital for Children, ASPCA, Shriners Children’s Hospital, and the St. Paul’s Alumni Foundation. She enjoyed vacationing year-round at Doolan’s Shore Club, Spring Lake Heights where Joanie and Susan Doolan, were like family to her. She is survived by her beloved sister Carmella and her husband Ralph Iannuccilli, and the late Aldo Capristo. Cherished aunt of Michael and his wife Susan, Thomas and his wife Greta, Steven and his wife Nicole Iannuccilli and Niece Debra Sysak (nee Iannuccilli) and her husband David. Devoted great aunt of 5 great-nieces and 4 great-nephews who she adored and never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. Dear and lifelong friend of Sr. Frances Salemi whom she met while teaching at Sacred Heart School, her childhood friend and classmate of St. Paul’s School Miss Delores Costantino and the late Barbara “Pinky” D’Andrea-Smith (October 2019) from PS 11.
