Hoboken police charge man with robbery

Hoboken police officers arrested a Jersey city man after he allegedly robbed a woman of her purse on Sept. 22 in western Hoboken, according to a press release from the Hoboken Police Department.

At about 9:45 p.m., Emergency Services Unit Officers William Bullock and James Barbro responded to the area of Second and Clinton streets on a report of a robbery.

They were met by two women who immediately pointed to a man walking south on Clinton Street.

Officer Bullock exited his vehicle to approach the man who looked directly at Officer Bullock and allegedly began running west on Second Street.

Officer Bullock chased after the man and caught up with him in the area of Second and Grand streets and placed him under arrest.

He was identified as Jersey City resident Dontae Black, 28.

Black allegedly approached one of the women and demanded that she turn over her purse.

A struggle ensued, and Black allegedly got control of the purse and ran away.

During the struggle, one of the women called the police.

Police searched Black once he was placed under arrest and found crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia allegedly in his possession.

Police found the victim’s purse in the immediate area where Black was placed under arrest.

Black was charged with Robbery, Simple Assault, Resisting Arrest, Possession of CDS Crack Cocaine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

His charges were placed on a warrant, and he was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Center.

Black is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
