The Hoboken City Council will host a special council meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. virtually to discuss the municipal budget.
The agenda for tonight’s meeting includes amendments to the $117.8 million introduced budget, final adoption of the budget, and a council vote on emergency temporary appropriations.
What amendments to the budget the council could propose is not clear, because the online council agenda does not include backup documents, apart from a “placeholder” resolution with no details.
During the last council meeting on Sept. 16, several amendments were proposed, but cuts to the budget would not have saved taxpayers money because additional costs were also included.
Taxpayers will see a roughly 1.4 percent tax increase in their total tax bill despite a 9.8 percent increase in the municipal tax levy, according to the currently introduced municipal budget.
This is because Hoboken’s share of county taxes is decreasing by about 6 percent this year.
