A mass was held at St. Joseph of the Palisades Church on Sept. 24 for Helen Marie Theresa Toomey, 89. She died peacefully in her home with her son Paul at her side on Sept. 18 on Tyler Place in West New York. Helen was born on July 3, 1931 in Orange to her parents Joseph Henry Sr. and Helen Gertrude Kressman. They were dedicated parishioners at St. Joseph’s of the Palisades, where Gus was a trustee and Helen led and organized fundraisers for the parish and its schools. Helen enjoyed time with family, and especially treasured her annual family trips to Manasquan beach where her siblings, children, and grandchildren gathered. She is predeceased by her husband Gus, daughter Elizabeth, brother Joe, and sister Dorothy. She is survived by her four children – Paul Toomey, West New York; Gus Toomey (Joanne), Aberdeen; Patricia Wesolowski (John), Ho-Ho-Kus; and John Toomey (Katie), Wall; her sister Barbra Maddox; her sister-in-law Gloria Kressman; and her ten grandchildren – Joseph Toomey, Daniel Toomey, Thomas Toomey, Michael Toomey, Catherine Toomey, Brendan Wesolowski, Tricia Wesolowski, Austin Wesolowski, Patrick Toomey, and Connor Toomey.
