Hoboken investigation leads to Newark ‘chop shop’

In July a stolen motorcycle was reported to the Hoboken Police Department.

An investigation led to a Newartk garage occupied by Jose Ventura-Perez, 34,  and Carmen Martinez, 31, who were allegedly selling stolen motor vehicle parts.

Charges against them included burglary and theft.

They are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Drop off drugs in Secaucus

On Oct. 24, residents can anonymously dispose of medications in their original containers without the prescription labels or directly into the drug disposal box at The Elms at 777 5th Street from 8 to 8:45 a.m.; Kroll Heights at 600 County Avenue from 9 to 9:45 a.m.; and the Secaucus Public Library at 1379 Paterson Plank Rd. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Jersey City program recognized

The Jersey City school district was recognized in the New Jersey School Boards Association’s School Leader Awards for its online Speech and Language Program, aiding teletherapy services.

Hoboken beautification

Hoboken artists are painting utility boxes on Washington Street as part of the Hoboken Arts Advisory Committee’s Hoboken Art Box Project.

Fourteen utility boxes wil reflect the theme of Equality and Inclusion.

Secaucus 7th grader Rashi Jakhotiya received a certificate and $100 Staples gift card for winning the Hudson County Improvement Authority’s 2020 poster contest.

Mayor Steven Fulop has raised $1.4 million for his reelection campaign; he will be on the Nov. 2021 ballot.

Hoboken site hits testing milestone

Hoboken and the Riverside Medical Group have provided more than 10,000 COVID-19 tests to Hoboken residents at the Riverside testing site as of Oct. 5.

Program for Jersey City playwrights 

Art House Productions announced the 2020-2021 playwrights in residence: Andrea Coleman, Izzi D’Esposito, Madeline Dennis-Yates, Nathaniel Foster, Aja Nisenson, and SMJ.

A public reading will be held in May.

WNY man sentenced in insurance scam

Luis G. Aguirre, 57, was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison for his role in an automobile accident scheme, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Health care practitioners fabricated and exaggerated accident victims’ injuries to support fraudulent insurance claims to PIP insurance plans for medically unnecessary services.
