As one ten-story mixed-use building opens on Broadway, another similar structure may receive planning board approval in November.
BayOne opens for leasing
City officials cut the ribbon at the new apartment complex at 957 Broadway, known as BayOne. Mayor James Davis was present on Oct. 12, posting a video of the event on social media.
“A very exciting day in Bayonne as we cut the ribbon for the beautiful ‘BayOne’ project on Broadway,” he said.
In the video, Davis noted that the project took a long time but was worth it.
“It was the first project and the most important project when we came in six years ago,” Davis said.
“This was the project that got everything started,” he said, referring to the development boom in Bayonne. “Once we got it passed, and it broke ground, it proved to everybody else in the area, especially the developers, that the city of Bayonne was moving forward.”
According to Davis, BayOne presages ongoing development.
The project was approved by the council in 2017 on the site of the former Resnick’s hardware store. In the buildup to the project, residents protested its construction.
Prior to BayOne, the area consisted primarily of three- and four-story buildings. BayOne is the first of its kind on Broadway.
The mixed-use building includes 91 residential units and 150 parking spaces. The ground floor includes 8,576 square feet of commercial space.
The developer, the L Group, is looking to redevelop land that sits on side streets between West 46th and West 47th. In January, the council approved a study to determine if the area is in need of redevelopment.
Another 10-story project in the works
Another 10-story, mixed-use residential building may be approved by the planning board on Nov. 9 for Broadway and West 12th Street.
The board met virtually via TetherView on Oct. 13 and was scheduled to hear an application by Bayonne Equities BII Urban Renewal LLC to construct the building.
The area that would be redeveloped is at 289 Broadway and West 12th Street. It features 116 residential units and 118 parking spaces, with first-floor retail.
Rooftop amenities and an indoor pool are included.
A public hearing will be on Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. To register, go to the calendar at bayonnenj.org and click on the link in the event description.
