Hudson County launches website to locate polling places

A must-have in a 'climate of confusion and misinformation'

Hudson County residents can now locate their polling places for the upcoming election via a poll-locating app.

Hudson County Clerk E. Junior Maldonado, County Executive Thomas DeGise and the Hudson County Board of Commissioners, in conjunction with the Office of Digital Information, announced that Hudson County is the first in New Jersey with the application.

Voters can locate their polling places by simply entering their registered voting address into the Hudson County 2020 General Election Voting Website at vote2020.hcnj.us.

The site is accessible from a smartphone, tablet or desktop computer.

Brick-and-mortar polling places 

Although voting for the 2020 General Election in New Jersey will be conducted primarily through vote-by-mail ballots because of the social distancing guidelines instituted by the CDC and the state, a limited number of physical polling locations will still be accessible.

The polling places, generally located in public facilities, will be used for provisional ballot voting, ADA compliant machine voting, and as vote-by-mail dropoff locations on Election Day for voters assigned to that polling location.

Due to the decreased number of polling places, voters’ polling locations may not be the same as those in past elections. In anticipation of the changed circumstances, the county proactively created the locator app.

Visit vote2020.hcnj.us, scroll down to the “Voting at a Polling Place” section, enter an address or facility in the search bar or click a location directly on the map to find locations and hours of operation. Driving directions are available by selecting “Directions.”

Other resources

Constituents can also digitally preview their sample ballots associated with that polling site and access critical election information and directions, such as the location of the closest vote-by-mail official drop box.

“The investments Hudson County has made into our digital infrastructure has paid great dividends,” DeGise said. “We are proud to be the first county in the state to offer such a service. We had great success with the creation of Hudson County’s Covid-19 Dashboard and are thrilled to capitalize on our information network with the launch of the 2020 General Election voting website.”

In a climate of confusion and misinformation, it is important that Hudson County residents have the ability to access reliable, accurate material regarding the upcoming General Election.”
