A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Oct. 13 at St. Mary R.C. Church, Jersey City for Angel L. Rivera, 81, of Hamilton, formerly of Jersey City. He passed away on Oct. 7. Born in Puerto Rico, Angel was a Jersey City resident for 60 years prior to moving to Hamilton three years ago. He worked for the City of Jersey City for 25 years before retiring in 2016; prior to that he was the proprietor of Rivera’s Lounge on 2nd Street for 30 years. Angel was the Puerto Rican Man of the Year in 2008, past president of the Jersey City Puerto Rican Day Parade and was the president of the Marcos Lluveras Softball League of Jersey City. He was the former husband of Aurea Rivera; father of Angel Luis, Jr., Hector L., Jessica, Eric, Samantha M. and Maria L. Rivera, Nineshka Ortiz, and the late Linda Rivera; grandfather of 13 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving Angel are his siblings, America Rivera, George Rivera, and the late Aracelis Aponte and Isabella Suarez, as well as many nieces and nephews.
